Have you “had enough” of this whole COVID-19 thing?

“Enough” is an interesting word.  When we can stand no more we declare that “We have had enough” or “Enough already.”  When things are going well, we may say that “We can’t get enough.”  In times of need, “We don’t have enough.”

I have become convinced that the Christian living in a fallen world will never be righteous enough, holy enough, optimistic enough, loving enough, pure enough or Godly enough if that means we no longer stand in need of these divine attributes in our lives.

However, there is another sense of “enough” of which the Bible speaks.  These kinds of “enough” are in keeping with the prayer Christ prayed when he said, “Give us this day our daily bread.”  These are the “enough’s” that keep us going in the right now and enable us to maintain spiritual equilibrium in our lives.  Enough for today. Possibly even enough to share.

As we think about life in Christ during this pandemic, I want to suggest these four “enough’s.”

Dear God, allow us to be…

  1. Close Enough to Hear Your Voice Distinguishing God’s Voice from the voices that rattle in our ears is a task of every Christian.  Through study, prayer and discipleship we learn to hear the Master’s voice. What is God saying to you? What does God want to say through you?
  2. Obedient Enough to Respond to Your Leading When we hear God’s voice, we are thrust into a crisis of faith; we must obey or disobey.  Don’t ask God for direction if you are unwilling to take that path once He makes it clear! Listen for the Spirit “pings” and then act.
  3. Holy Enough to be Real We will never be perfect but we can be authentic.  Being open, honest and human places us in need of God’s grace each day.  I would rather live in this humble plane than with some exaggerated sense of my own righteousness.
  4. Powerful Enough to Lead When people are searching for hope or are immersed in crisis; leadership moves from a vocational skill set to a divine gift. Leading people toward hope and away from despair is God work. It is work to which all people of faith are called for which all people of faith are equipped.

When we walk in these dimensions of the Kingdom, we not only discover we have enough to share but we are connected directly with the God who is more than enough!

Prayer:  Almighty God, give me enough of you in my life to do the work you have called me to do.  In Jesus’ strong name.  Amen!

  1. Yes I think everyone has. But it is something new in our lives and with the change and uncertainty right now we need to remember to pray enough. God wants us to pray about everything.
