A Wise Man Called “Lefty” (and other dismembered things)

When I was a kid, nativity sets were an essential part of the USAmerican Christmas-scape.  These sets were mixed and matched and passed down from generation to generation; often far more because of their sentimental value than their quality. Such transfers were not without tragedies.  I remember various and sundry accidentsContinue reading “A Wise Man Called “Lefty” (and other dismembered things)”

Determining the Speed of Change

“A large church staff determines the direction of change. The laity determine the speed of change. The negotiation process between the two will determine the health of the church.” -Shane L. Bishop, Senior Pastor, Christ Church, Fairview Heights, Illinois

Exactly As I Remember It…

The great thing about doing “Exactly As I Remember It” has been writing the kind of book I wanted to write. It feels a bit like “The Andy Griffith Show” in an “American Idol” world but I hope there is still a place in this world for something warm, honest, decent and funny. -Shane Bishop

Exactly As I Remember It

Spending the day in the Sumner, Illinois area. Many of the vignettes from the new book took place here. Saw Harold’s mobile home, the Sumner Methodist Church and the baseball field. Sixteen year old memories still taste great! Hope you soon enjoy reading the book as much as I enjoyed writing it! -Shane

Exactly as I Remember it… Excerpt VI

My paternal grandfather’s name was Halan Laverne Bishop.  He died before I was born.  He named his only son Fredrick Laverne Bishop.  For some reason, Laverne II dropped the “e” and named his only son Shane Lavern Bishop (that is me).  They tell me Laverne used to be a guy or girl’s name but thenContinue reading “Exactly as I Remember it… Excerpt VI”
