There is a lot of stuff about “how to make your church grow” flying about. A whole lot. Some of it is terrible. Some of it is really good.
Here are my thoughts:
15 Things Growing Churches Understand:
- Your mission statement is your best friend
- Pastors must be strategic leaders
- National events affect local congregations
- Guilt, duty and obligation are not effective motivation tools
- Evangelism and marketing are not the same thing but you have to do both
- People often use “goods and services” from multiple churches
- Facebook Live or your internet stream is the new first-time visit
- Excellent facilities matter
- Community involvement in itself does not grow churches
- People want strong Biblical teaching and preaching
- Authenticity and “connect” matter more than production quality
- You have to get new people plugged in lightening fast
- Generosity is a component of discipleship
- Corporate worship is your “bread and butter”
- You must have a compelling vision of your future
Christ Church has grown from just over 200 to 2,500 over the past twenty-two years. Growing churches view the world differently than declining churches and work from a very different set of assumptions.
In some ways, everything has changed in the last few years.
Except our need for great churches.
And our need for Jesus.
